It’s lunch-time, Christmas Eve.
I’ve given up hoping the agent will contact me before Christmas and am now hoping for early in the new year. (please oh please oh please…) It’s been a couple of months now, so it’s not looking hopeful. I’ve decided that if I can’t find anyone to publish Death Comes Dancing, I will probably either sell it as an e-book, or publish it here in installments. So there, publishing world! Watch this space.
In the last two weeks I’ve lost two friends to cancer. They were both my age and until the Big C they were quite healthy. I can’t understand how they’re gone and I’m still here. I’m asthmatic, overweight (times that by 5), collapsed discs in my spine, half my chest missing and a right arm that’s twice the size of my left, thanks to lymphoedema. I get puffed having a shower. Yet, here I am, still above ground. God’s ways are a complete mystery to me!
My mother always said, “Count your blessings and your troubles won’t seem so bad.” I have a lot of blessings: my family, my friends, my dog, my home, my church and bucket-loads of faith, hope, love and joy. I live in a lovely town, in a great state, in the best country in the world: Australia. I’m already more blessed than 90% of the world’s population! (Actually I have no idea what the figure is – I stink at maths – but it sounds right.)
So: here’s my Christmas wish to you and yours. Whether you’re celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or just having a family get-together, may your blessings be many and your troubles few.
Hi Wendy,
Christmas greetings from the Hampel clan. May you continue to enjoy those wonderful blessings for a long time yet. You’ve certainly been a blessing to me – as well as an inspiration too.
Don’t give up on your novel just yet. I could say something here about patience, persistence and perseverance, but I’ll just mention another “p” word – plan. God has a plan for that book that he gave you. Oh – another one – I’ll keep praying too!
Thank you, Trevor. I appreciate your kindness. Happy days to you, Corinne and your family. Let’s agree for both of us: the best is yet to come.
So sorry about your losses. It is so difficult. And yes, we must count our blessing, thanks for the reminder.
How many agents have you tried? I am currently waiting on 13. (Try Preditors and Editors for more choices) Don’t give up too soon. But too if you decide to self publish- sell it ,do not just put up chapters here. Sell it as an ebook. I’m really thinking of selling a collection of my short stories like that from my blog. My only problem is PayPal which doesn’t operate properly in Botswana. As soon as that is sorted I am in business. I already have a guy who knows how to set the whole thing up.
Think about it. Writing is your job- who does their job for free?
And Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!!!!!
There aren’t that many agents in Oz, Lauri. There are only 6 or 7, but not all are accepting new clients. I’m up to #5.
I admire your persistence – good on ya – and don’t worry, I’m not giving up just yet. I hear what you’re saying. It’s just disappointing that the year has almost gone and I’ve been trying for all of it, to find a publisher/agent. Maybe 2011 is my year! (And yours, too!) 🙂
I’m sorry to hear about your two friends, Wendy. And I hope you do hear from the agent soon. I’m sure God has big plans for you and your writing.
Blessings,
Paula
